Standing firm as a team

We are the organization's dumping ground.
I saw nothing but a team that makes a difference for the customer every single day.

I recently guided a customer service team as part of a strategic development program. The team was under pressure due to high performance expectations. They felt little recognition and worked in an atmosphere that could have been better. We embarked on this journey together for nine months.

With a step-by-step program. Aligned with what the team and the team leader truly needed to take their work to the next level. Together. I always see the shift begin as soon as we start working with various elements of team identity and (self-)worth. This allows team members to rediscover who they are and what they have to offer the organization. And certainly during times of transition, this provides stability.

The people on the team managed to touch me multiple times.

This marked a breakthrough for me: during one of the later work sessions, I asked a check-in question. And the answers set something in motion. Suddenly, there was a mutual conversation in which everyone participated. Without judgmental glances, but united and full of ownership of their shared role in interacting with one another. I saw the team taking itself seriously. That made me glow inwardly with satisfaction. What positive power!

The result we have achieved is a team that stands firm.

They speak up. They solve problems with each other, not alongside each other. They are visibly prouder of their work. Customers and management notice this. Accessibility figures have skyrocketed, absenteeism has dropped, and the work atmosphere is harmonious.

“Standing firm” did not just become the title of the development program. It became their language. Their idiosyncratic contribution to an organization in motion.

Is there a team in your organization that has more potential than it thinks? I help you make that potential visible and strengthen it sustainably. Schedule a no-obligation consultation with me here.

I introduced a team within the Dutch central government to each other through play. I did this together with my partner Amsterdam Gamelab. The game immersed them in a simulation of a fictional organization, presented them with choices and dilemmas, and had them reflect together on...
